The Role
As the Assistant Maintenance Manager, you will possess a wealth of industry experience and knowledge across a variety of trades, utilising your skillset to care for a luxury resort and heritage listed buildings, all located on a class A reserve – Rottnest Island.
Reporting into and working closely with the Property Manager, to be successful you will have sound understanding of risk management, workplace safety, be forward thinking and are an active leader in showcasing your skillset in supporting the development of the maintenance and public area cleaning team – ensuring compliance standards.
This role would suit a qualified trades professional who is looking for an opportunity to step into a supervisory position and gain hands on experience with project management – all with a sea change to one of Australia’s most iconic tourism destinations.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise/lead a team of general hands to ensure all tasks are carried out in a timely matter.
- Prepare weekly maintenance schedules and assist in task allocations.
- Maintain all inventory and equipment and ensure proper storage.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance tasks/work to all operational equipment and property assets.
- Assist property manager in the decision-making process of the hotel project management by evaluating: the water supply, plumbing, drainage, sewage, ventilation, and power needs.
- Organise and supervise the manufacturing and installation process of the designed elements.
- Coordinate a team of general hands to ensure the facilities and equipment at the premises are kept in good working order through preventive and reactive maintenance.
- Undertake routine inspections of the venue, generate reports and organise repairs if required.
- Develop Standard Operation Procedures and Safe Work Method Statements.
- Coordinate and manage contractors & external suppliers when onsite conducting additional maintenance support.
- Carrying out any other reasonable duties as directed by the Property Manager
About You
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Trade or Maintenance Officer role.
- Trade qualification (plumbing, electrical, cabinetry etc.) or engineering background – highly regarded
- Experience in hotel/resort environment – desirable
- Extensive knowledge of safety protocols – exercising successful critical thinking & problem solving.
- Decisive, hardworking, and a ‘can do’ attitude.
- Ability to work autonomously & well under pressure – remaining calm & collected.
- Reliable, self-aware and approachable manner.
- Strong relationship management when engaging with all stakeholders.
- Immaculate presentation and strong written & verbal communication.
